Lice infestations

Pediculosis capitis/Head lice),
Pediculosis corporis/Body lice),

Head lice(Pediculus capitis)

Body lice(Pediculus corporis)

Pediculosis pubis(Pubic lice/Phthirus pubis/Crab lice)

  • Ivermectin이나 Stromectol으로 치료도 한다(출처; Infectious disease in children, October 2009. p.10).

Permethin(1%) 크림,

Pyrethrin-based products

Lindane (1%)

Malathion (0.5%)

Malathion(상품명-Ovide) 로션이 가장 치료효과가 좋습니다.

Head lice (Pediculus capitis)

• Parasitosis (infectious disease) caused by head lice is called pediculosis capitis or head lice.

• Head lice are most parasitic, especially on the scalp, located just above the ears and the nape of the neck.

• Signs, itchy symptoms may occur.

• Sometimes there may be no symptoms at all. • Secondary bacterial infection may develop on the scalp in the area affected by head lice and the surrounding lymph nodes may become reactively enlarged.

• These eggs (nits) attached to hair can be seen with the naked eye, and head lice can be visually diagnosed.

• The incubation period is 6-10 days. Infectious disease Body lice (Pediculus corporis)

• This infection caused by body lice (Pediculosis corporis) is called pediculosis.

• Body lice are very itchy, mainly at night because they crawl and suck blood.

• It is usually attached to clothes during the day and parasitizes at night.

• The skin bitten may develop a secondary bacterial infection and the lymph nodes around it may become enlarged.

• The incubation period is 2-3 weeks.

• Lice can be visually inspected and diagnosed.

• If you take good care of your hygiene and boil your clothes in water and wash them, you will be cured.

• You don’t necessarily need to be treated with this infection medication, which can kill your body lice. Infectious disease Pediculosis pubis (Pubic lice/Phthirus pubis/Crab lice)

• Itching around the genitals and anus, genital warts, eyebrows, eyelashes, beards, armpit hairs, etc. can cause this infection, and rarely, the scalp with hair.

• The incubation period is 2-3 weeks. • Diagnosis by visual inspection of pubic lice and eggs.

• The genitals are usually infected during sexual intercourse.

• Sometimes it can also be transmitted through towels or furniture contaminated with the genital teeth.

• If you have a genital infection, check for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydial infection, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or AIDS.

• Treatment is the same as treatment for head lice infections. It can be treated with Lidane lotion 1%.

• If a child has a genital infection, it is also important to determine if the child has been sexually abused.

Diagnosis of lice infections

• Diagnosis can be made by combining medical history, symptoms, and examination findings.

• Head lice eggs in the hair stick to the hair and do not come off easily.

• Its eggs are called nits. These nits can be seen with the naked eye.

• You can also see teeth crawling on the head.

• Head lice and pubic lice are blackish-brown, and body lice are yellowish gray-white.

• Body lice lay eggs on the innermost layer of clothing.

Treatment of lice infections

26.gif

Photo 401. Nits on the hair source; CDC/Dr. Dennis D. Juranek

• Head lice are treated with Kuwell containing 1% Lindane, Ovid containing 0.5% Malathion, or Nix containing Permethrin. This infection is treated and treated with one of the treatment drugs for this infection.

• Treatment with Ivermectin or Stromectol (source; Infectious disease in children, October 2009. p.10).

• These days, even if you treat this infection correctly according to the doctor’s prescription, it is difficult to treat this infection because resistance to these drugs is developed.

• If one of the family members has head lice or body infection, all family members should receive the same treatment on the same day as lice can also infect other family members. After that, a second treatment is performed once more about 1 week.

• The main component of Quwell or Ovid is parathion. You should also use this medicine to treat this infection according to your doctor’s prescription.

• When a head lice is treated with one of Kuwell, Linden, Pearlmethrin, or Marathion, the lice and nits may die together.

• After treatment with this drug, dead nits may remain attached to the hair for up to one to two weeks.

• It is common for all nits to die after one treatment with one of Kuwell, Nix, Ovid, and Rid for head lice.

• For nits that are still attached to the hair after treatment, apply a wet towel compress to the hair for 30 to 60 minutes and then remove the nits with a fine comb, or apply white vinegar to the hair or apply a white vinegar towel compress for 30 to 60 minutes. After removing the nits with a comb, the nits come off more easily.

• Boil and wash your clothes or single sheets in water and clean the bedroom.

• Body lice contaminated with clothes or beds can infect others.

• Body lice are more likely to be parasitic in children living in filthy homes.

• Body lice stay on the skin only when sucking blood, and the rest of the time they hide under the clothes and lay eggs there. Therefore, it is necessary to thoroughly manage hygiene and wash clothes and single sheets by boiling them in water. • Pubic lice are mainly parasitic on the external genitalia. Rarely, it can also parasitize underarm hair, eyebrows, and bearded skin.

• Treat head lice with this anti-infectious agent and remove nits with a fine comb.

• Pubic lice can sometimes be contaminated with clothes or single sheets.

• PerForm, which contains Permethrin, is an antiparasitic drug recently manufactured by Formix Ltd.

• It is said that the treatment effect of this head lice infection is 96%.

• Also, this parasitic drug called DSP lotion was recently manufactured in the United States, and it is said that it is effective in treating head lice infection by 97%.

• Benzyl alcohol lotion can treat head lice infection (source; Physician First watch, April 2009).

• Ivermectin treatment can eradicate head lice. NEJM 11/2012

The following is an example of Internet pediatric health counseling Q&A regarding “hair lice treatment”.

Q&A. Treatment of head lice infectious disease

Q. Help… A few days ago my 7-year-old daughter was combing her hair and saw something stuck in her hair, just in case, and it worked. It had teeth.

She had never complained of itching, so she had no idea. For several days, she groaned, unable to speak to anyone, scouring the whole town for a true comb, combing and pulling out nits. I think I’ve also transmitted it. Sir, I saw on the Internet that there is a medicine in the form of shampoo. What should I do? Hey, even if I take responsibility for eradicating it, the middle ear can’t cut my hair, so I’ll have to take medicine for my hair, so I’m discussing it like this. Please help me… If you go to the hospital, what department should you look for? I don’t want to go to the hospital even if I die, but it’s so embarrassing…

A. No worries, hello. Thanks for asking. That’s a good question. The more information you know about your child’s age, gender, past medical history, family history, examination findings, and clinical tests, the more helpful it is to give you an answer.

We will give you an answer based on the information you provided. These include head lice, body lice, and pubic lice (pubic lice). In the United States, elementary, middle and high school students were rejected from school because of head lice, and there were many problems in treating head lice infections. If you have a head lice infection, you will not be able to attend school without a complete cure for head lice infection, as you can infect other students. in treatment Permethin (1%) cream; Pyrethrin-based products shampoo, Lindane (1%) Shampoo, Malathion (0.5%) lotion, etc. You can choose to treat one of several types of medicines for this infection.

Malathion (trade name – Ovide) lotion has the best therapeutic effect. If you follow the doctor’s instructions and treat it well with this infectious disease drug, the lice and lice (nits) will also die, but because the eggshell can remain on the hair for 1 to 2 weeks, it is not good to look at, and sometimes school refuses to go to school because it has not been cured. In some cases.

After treatment, the nits (the eggs) should be removed with a fine comb. Some of these infections these days may not kill the lice with this medication. Therefore, this infection may not be well treated. In general, it is recommended that all family members receive treatment on the same day, and that friends who play together as often as possible also receive treatment. It is recommended to wash bedding, clothes, etc., and to treat pets as well. After receiving the first treatment, receive the second treatment with the same anti-infectious drug once every 2 days to 1 week.

Please continue to receive treatment from your pediatrician and discuss these issues. Please refer to this infection. If you have any further questions, please contact us again. thank you. Lee Sang-won, M.D., FAAP
