The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has released its updated immunization schedule for children from birth to age 18 years.
Among the changes from 2015, published in Pediatrics:
The order of vaccines on the schedule is now from earliest to latest age of administration.
Meningococcal B vaccine has been added to the schedule;
it is recommended for high-risk children at 10 years of age, and may be considered for children aged 16 to 18 years.
Earlier administration of HPV vaccine (at age 9 to 10 years) is recommended for children with a history of sexual abuse.
The HPV nomenclature has been changed (for example, the 9-valent vaccine, formerly referred to as HPV9, is now 9vHPV).
A new blue bar designation has been added to indicate vaccines that may be considered for non–high-risk individuals (e.g., meningococcal B vaccine).
